Rustig paasweekend in Heuvelland Zuid-Limburg

15 april 2020 - 18:35

The evaluation shows that the measure to close off the popular Heuvelland region of Zuid-Limburg to day trippers was effective. It was especially quiet in Heuvelland, with significantly fewer day trips compared with the previous weekend. The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee reported that it was also quiet at the border crossings. Because of the positive results, it has been decided to reduce the number of checkpoints.

In line with national government measures, people should continue to stay at home as much as possible. As was the case last weekend, day trippers must refrain from visiting the Heuvelland area. Annemarie Penn-te Strake, chair of Security Region Zuid-Limburg, is pleased that the measure imposed over the Easter weekend was helpful. “It was good to see that people responded en masse to the appeal for them to stay at home, and specifically to stay away from the Heuvelland region. I am proud that together we were able to achieve this and I would like to appeal to everyone to continue in the same vein.”

Saturday and Sunday

Next weekend there will again be good weather. So that we can continue to feel the positive effects of the measure, there will be additional checks on Saturday and Sunday on the access roads to the Heuvelland. Checks will be possible up to and including Tuesday 28 April. The level of checks depends on the situation that is anticipated or what is actually occurring.

Inhabitants of Heuvelland in Zuid-Limburg

The national advice remains in force for the inhabitants of the Heuvelland region. Stay at home as much as possible and only go out if it is strictly necessary, for example to do shopping or for exercise. If you go out, stay in your own neighbourhood and avoid crowded places. Furthermore, stay in the Netherlands and do not cross the border into Belgium or Germany. Maintain a distance of 1.5 metres from other people at all times.
